It’s an endless Father’s Day this summer in Lancaster County, PA
(Lancaster, Pa.) Dad’s special day is coming up fast on June 20th, and a getaway to Lancaster County is a perfect way to spend the weekend, with many activities that any father would enjoy. Of course, we all know that dear old Dad deserves to be celebrated on more than just one day, so in case the busyness of life doesn’t allow for a get-together on the 20th, Lancaster offers great fun for Dad throughout the summer.
How ‘bout introducing Dad to some of our heritage stories
beyond the Amish? Start with a trip back in time to the
Ephrata Cloister, one of America's earliest communal societies, best known for its original art and music, as well as its distinctive medieval Germanic architecture. Learn about the early sparks of the Civil War at the
Christiana Underground Railroad Center, or interact with authentic demonstrations of early Pennsylvania German life at the
Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum in Lancaster. Let Dad discover his inner secret agent at the James Bond Watches exhibit at Columbia’s
National Watch & Clock Museum, or explore Lancaster’s earliest beginnings at the
Hans Herr House and this year’s special
Lancaster 300 events.
Want to take your dad out to a ballgame for big-league fun without big-city prices? The crack of the bat never sounded better than at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Downtown Lancaster, home of the Atlantic League’s
Lancaster Barnstormers professional baseball team. With a promotional theme for each game, 18 post-game fireworks displays throughout the season, and a number of children’s activities onsite, a visit to the Barnstormers has something for the whole family.
Festivals and other special events are also an integral part of what makes a trip to Lancaster County so enjoyable, and this coming Father’s Day weekend is no exception. Get your fill of food and water with a
Paddle Evening Rendezvous (see 6/18 entry) at Shank’s Mare Outfitters on the Susquehanna River. Or partake of delicious fare and unique activities during the village of Intercourse’s annual
Heritage Days (6/18-20) and Kitchen Kettle Village’s
Berry Jam Festival (6/18-19). If you can’t bring Dad up that weekend, don’t worry; there’s always something going on here. Check out the Events & Festivals section at
